Preseason hockey in the Bay of Quinte region is officially shifting into high gear as local teams finalize their training camp rosters, adjust front-office operations, and prepare for exhibition games ahead of the upcoming 2026–27 season.

Beyond the scoreboard, the Prince Edward County Minor Hockey Association (PECMHA) focused on long-term development. The 2026 Spring Hockey program saw record interest, offering 3-on-3 and 4-on-4 leagues for players born between 2009 and 2019. The association also introduced specialized Body Checking Clinics and goalie clinics to enhance player safety and skill.

The Quinte Red Devils AAA Hockey Club is one of the top in the province at the triple-A level. It’s a testament to the strength of minor hockey in the region and the development of players who are willing to put in the time and effort required to play in the Ontario Minor Hockey Association’s Eastern Triple-A loop.

While the start of another season certainly brings a heightened level of excitement, Belleville Jr. Bulls president Jill Bain says minor hockey really is enjoyable all the time.

It has been over 13 years now since Elijah Cole passed away at the tender age of 16, but his love for sports – hockey in particular – will never be forgotten.

The closer the end of the minor hockey season neared, and as the undefeated streak continued for the Quinte West U15 Golden Hawks, the chances increased that their first loss could come at the worst possible time.
