The Cold Creek Comets U15 BB girls hockey team captured gold at the CAN/AM tournament in Lake Placid, New York the weekend of Nov. 25-27.
Unlike the Miracle on Ice held there in 1980, this Canadian team would leave their mark on this iconic little town.
In the first game against the Reading Rockets from Massachusetts, the Comets dominated with an 8-1 win. The second game against a Canadian counterpart, the North York Storm, ended in a 1-1 tie. Cold Creek completed the round-robin schedule with a 5-1 victory over the Minuteman Lady Flames from Massachusetts.
Facing North York again in the final, the Comets again weathered the Storm and clinched the championship win with a 3-0 shutout as they controlled the game from start to finish.
These girls represented the Cold Creek Comets hockey organization and Canada with respectful sportsmanship, team spirit and maturity beyond their years.
This was an experience of a lifetime for the players, families and coaching staff. The Comets also entered the CAN/AM skills competition and won hardware in all categories- shootout, goalie challenge and a skating relay.
