The Madison Excavating QRD U13s had an intense and incredibly successful weekend, travelling to Windsor and competing in their first tournament of the 2024-2025 season. The QRD U13s finished with a 2-0-2 record after round-robin play. The team then won their semi-final game, but lost in the finals after five minutes of overtime, followed by a shootout.

Friday, September 27th: Game 1

The Madison Excavating QRD U13s kicked off the tournament with an intense showdown with the Oakville Rangers on Friday morning. The Rangers were first on the scoreboard with a late goal in the first period. In the second period, Everett Brown found the back of the net, assisted by Dylan Chalk and Max Bucknell. The tie was short-lived when Oakville netted their second goal thirty-two seconds later. The Devils were down by one to enter the final frame, when Robbie Robinson evened things up at two, unassisted. Eight minutes later, the Rangers squeaked a third goal in, to which QRD responded minutes later when Kade Osterhout, assisted by Dylan Chalk and Max Bucknell, scored a third goal to tie things up again. Levi Mallory then scored the game-winner, assisted by Lennox George and Kade Osterhout. Incredibly, with only thirty-one seconds left on the clock, Lennox George, assisted by Kade Osterhout and Dylan Chalk, added an insurance marker, and the Devils earned a 5-3 victory to begin the tournament. Friday, September 27th: Game 2

That evening, QRD would take on the Sarnia-Lambton Jr. Sting. The first period passed with many attempts, but no goals on either side. Two minutes later, the Sting responded with one of their own while on a powerplay. At the 6:33 mark, Kade Osterhout, assisted by Max Bucknell, put QRD back in the lead, but the Sting scored again before the period’s end. With a 2-2 tie to enter the third, Coulter Watson, assisted by Robbie Robinson, scored a shorthanded goal less than a minute in. The Sting later netted two consecutive goals, putting them in the lead for about five minutes. Unassisted, with under three minutes left in the game, Kade Osterhout scored a fourth goal for QRD, and the game ended in a 4-4 tie.  In net, Hayden Tripp worked hard to keep the score as close as possible.

Saturday evening, the U13 Devils would have a tilt against the Windsor Junior Spitfires. The Spitfires were the first on the board with an early goal, however, a goal from Everett Brown, assisted by Hewett Tejnor and Blake McManus, and a second one, the game-winning goal, from Keaton Clute, assisted by Hewett Tejnor and Lennox George, would put QRD ahead by one going into the second period. The second frame saw three goals from QRD: one from Coulter Watson, assisted by Kade Osterhout, one from Dylan Chalk, assisted by Robbie Robinson, and a third from Lennox George, assisted by Jack Seeney. QRD had a 5-1 lead heading into the final frame, when Max Bucknell, assisted by Kaiden Sprackett and Coulter Watson, and Cooper Plumley, assisted by Coulter Watson, managed to find the back of the net as well, solidifying a 7-1 victory. In the second period, the Devils managed to notch two more consecutive goals; the first from Hewett Tejnor, unassisted, and the second from Lennox George, assisted by Coulter Watson. QRD headed into the third period with a 3-1 lead. At the 9:15 mark, Jack Seeney, assisted by Hewett Tejnor, scored the game-winning goal. Sunday, September 28th: Final Game

With only forty-eight seconds left in the first, the Sting earned their first goal, and the score was even at one. For the remaining two periods, both teams worked hard to come out on top. When the final buzzer sounded, the tie remained, and the game went into a 3-on-3, five-minute overtime. Neither team managed to find the back of the net, so the game went into a shootout. It was at this time that the Sting netted their second goal and won the tournament. Between the pipes, Hayden Tripp worked hard to help keep his team in it. The QRD U13s walked away as silver medalists. Player of the Game: Kade Osterhout
