TRENTON — Good things don’t last forever, and for this never-say-die edition of the Stouffville Spirit, it all came to a crashing end tonight. The Trenton Golden Hawks showed why they’re among the top teams on the country, as they finished off the Spirit 5-0 in game five, winning the East semifinal four games to one. Thomas Kuipers led the Hawks scoring parade with two goals and captain Corbin Roach added the backbreaker. His shorthanded breakaway goal three minutes into the final period gave Trenton a 3-0 lead and the realization that this wasn’t Stouffville’s night started to set in. Cooper Matthews and Jonathan Pylypuik rounded out the scoring with power-play goals.
Trenton moves on to the East final against either Haliburton County or the Toronto Junior Canadiens. Haliburton leads that series 3-2.
For the Spirit, some players will return and some will scatter to colleges or the Ontario Hockey League. They leave after providing Stouffville with one of its best junior A teams in years. They were in every game they played and never quit — not once.
