The Wellington Dukes have reached into their new head coach’s home province to secure a commitment from a Penticton, British Columbia-born defenceman.
17-year-old Logan Goodwin posted 26 points in 31 games in 2022-23 with the Okanagan Hockey Academy U18 Prep squad.
Goodwin, who is turning 18 on August 5, stated he’s excited for the challenge of playing on largely a brand-new team in a new town and province.
“Kent (Lewis, Dukes head coach) gave me a call one afternoon, just reaching out telling me what the program was all about and the town of Wellington etc. and I was instantly intrigued,” Goodwin explained.
“Wellington seems like a great community that supports the team really well and that’s just what I’ve gathered from the outside looking in, so I’m excited to get there and see it for myself,” he further expressed.
“I’m really excited to be a part of a great franchise with a great history in the league.”
Lewis said Goodwin will get a great opportunity in an almost ‘expansion-like’ situation.
“Logan is a player that can play both sides of the puck,” the coach said.
“He’s good with the puck, he can jump into play, but he’s also good defensively. He’s a great kid. I think fans are going to see a lot of the same quotes from me in regard to character coming first.”
