Team Canada East will play for World Junior A Challenge gold against the United States on Sunday in Cornwall.
Of note for local junior A hockey fans, the Wellington Dukes and Trenton Golden Hawks will be well represented on Canada East during the 5 p.m. contest at the Cornwall Civic Complex, which will air live on TSN.
Representing the Dukes are goaltender Ethan Morrow and forward Matheson Mason along with head coach Derek Smith, who is an assistant with Canada East, and athletic therapist Leah Toffelmire.
Matthew Cato, of the Golden Hawks, has also played a key role for Canada East, including two goals in Saturday’s 4-1 semifinal win over Canada West. Morrow made 37 saves to earn the win in net for Canada East in that semifinal contest.
Meanwhile, the Dukes (22-8-2-1) and Golden Hawks (23-12-0-2) will square off in Ontario Junior Hockey League action Sunday night in Trenton.
It’s Game 3 of the Hasty P’s Cup regular season series between the Quinte rivals. which is currently tied one game apiece.
Game time is 7:30 p.m. at the Duncan McDonald Memorial Gardens.
