David Fournier scored the game-winner at 10:44 of the third period to give the Trenton Golden Hawks a 5-4 win over the Collingwood Blues in Game 3 of the Ontario Junior Hockey League Nutrafarms Championship Series in Trenton Monday night.
Collingwood leads the best-of-seven series 2-1.
It was the second goal of the game for Fournier, the 18-year-old from Blainville, Quebec.
Just as in Game 1, a 5-4 win for the Blues, the teams scored three goals apiece in the first period.
Mark McIntosh scored 30 seconds into the game and defenceman Cameron Eke at the 2:48 mark to give the Blues the early 2-0 lead.
Trenton’s Owen Wilson, a 6-foot-4, 205-pound defenceman, had the only goal of the second period.
Lucas LaPalm and Sami Douglas-Najem had the other Trenton goals.
Spencer Young scored two for Collingwood, his 11th and 12th of the postseason to go with 15 assists.
“The guys showed a lot of character today, to battle back in the first like they did,” Trenton Head Coach and General Manager Derek Smith told the OJHL. “The crowd was great and the guys fed off it.”
Attendance was 1,271.
Game 4 will be played in Trenton Wednesday.
The winner of the series gets the Buckland Cup and a berth in the Centennial Cup national championships in Oakville May 9-19.
The OJHL champions’ first game at the Centennial Cup will be played May 9 against the champions of the Alberta Junior Hockey League.
