OJHL schedule announced; Dukes, Golden Hawks to play home openers Sept. 9

The Ontario Junior Hockey League unveiled its 2022-23 regular season schedule this week.

Opening night is Thursday, Sept. 8 and Quinte’s two junior A teams will take the ice for the first time the following evening. The Sept. 9 schedule includes the Wellington Dukes hosting the Lindsay Muskies at Lehigh Arena and the Trenton Golden Hawks welcoming the St. Michael’s Buzzers to the Duncan McDonald Memorial Gardens. Game time is 7:30 p.m. for both.

The Dukes and Golden Hawks don’t meet for the first time until Friday, Oct. 21 in Wellington. The rest of the scheduled match-ups are Friday. Nov. 18 in Trenton; Sunday, Dec. 18 in Trenton; Friday, Feb. 10 in Wellington; and Sunday, Feb. 26 in Trenton.

Inter-conference and crossover games return this season as the OJHL is returning to its two-conference alignment this season with the top eight teams in each qualifying for the playoffs. The Buffalo Jr. Sabres are taking a leave of absence for the third straight season.

The annual Governors’ Showcase is returning to the Cobourg Community Centre again this season from Sept. 19-21. No games are currently listed on the schedule. The event attracts hundreds of NHL, NCAA, U Sports and major junior scouts including the OHL.

Other key events include: the OJHL All-Star Celebration weekend Jan. 13-14 in Collingwood; the World Junior ‘A’ Challenge from Dec. 11-18 in Cornwall and the 2023 Centennial Cup national junior A championship in May in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba.
