In front of a packed Henderson Recreation Centre crowd of 945, the Picton Pirates showed exactly what championship hockey looks like — grit, discipline, and belief — grinding out a 3–2 Game 7 victory over the Amherstview Jets to win the series.
The Jets struck first late in the opening period, but the Pirates never blinked. This group has lived by resilience all season, and it showed again when it mattered most.
The turning point came in the second period when the Pirates’ power play went to work.
First, Colby Leaver buried a power-play goal to tie the game, and moments later Luc Amat struck with another man-advantage marker to give Picton its first lead of the night.
From there, the Pirates leaned into their identity — relentless pressure, smart defense, and clutch goaltending.
Early in the third period, Luc Amat delivered again, finishing a beautiful play from Isaiah More and Ben Smith to extend the lead and give Picton the breathing room they needed.
Amherstview pushed late and cut the lead to one with four minutes left, but the Pirates slammed the door.
Nolan Lane stood tall in net, turning aside 27 of 29 shots, battling through traffic and pressure in the dying minutes to secure the win.
The Pirates’ power play proved to be the difference, going 2-for-5, while the penalty kill held the Jets scoreless on three chances.
But this win was about more than stats.
It was 20 players pulling the rope in the same direction, sacrificing, blocking shots, finishing checks, and refusing to let the moment be bigger than them.
Game 7 hockey demands heart.
The Pirates showed they have plenty.
