A Double Win for the Madison Excavating U11s as they Enter the New Year!
After a three week break from games, the Madison Excavating U11 Quinte Red Devils headed to Ajax on Saturday for a match-up against the Raiders. QRD came out on top, despite the Raiders taking an early lead with two consecutive goals in the first period. The Devils were able to answer the second Raiders goal with under two minutes left in the first, when Blake Milne ripped one over the goalie’s glove. Despite starting the second period down a goal, QRD was quick to turn things around, scoring two consecutive goals. The first would come from Dylan Chalk on the powerplay, off a Cooper Plumley set up. Just over a minute later, the game-winner was scored by Kade Whelan. The score was 3-2 for the Devils, going into the third. Just like the second period, QRD continued their strong play in the third period. Kade Whelan added an insurance marker off an assist from Everett Brown, with seven minutes until the final buzzer. Between the pipes, Hayden Tripp helped to secure the 4-2 win.
On Sunday, the Madison Excavating U11 Quinte Red Devils hosted the Oshawa Generals in Marmora. While the two teams battled back and forth through the first two periods of the game, it wasn’t until the third period that the deadlock was broken. Four minutes into the third, Everett Brown opened the scoring with a powerplay goal. The Generals answered the goal just over two minutes later. Blake Milne continued his goal streak, scoring his second of the weekend, off of a smooth set up from Max Bucknell. Dylan Chalk then sealed the game when he found the back of the net, extending QRD’s lead to 3-1. A solid team effort from the Devils led to the win. Ben Larmer played very well in net, making some great second effort saves to keep the game scoreless early on.
