It has come down to a battle of Ontario as the 2022 Canadian U20 Men’s Fast Pitch Championship concludes Sunday in Napanee.
The Hagersville Haldimand Heat (Ontario 3) locked up the final berth on Sunday’s schedule with an 8-1 win over the Rosebud Junior Royals (Saskatchewan 1) in the final game Saturday evening.
Earlier Saturday night, the Tavistock Athletics (Ontario 1) advanced directly to the final with a 12-6 victory over the host Napanee Express, which gained an extra game in their attempt to reach the final.
Tavistock awaits the winner between Napanee Express and Hagersville. The Express and Heat will square off at 11 a.m. Sunday morning at the Napanee Fairgrounds with the winner advancing to the 2 p.m. championship final against Tavistock.
Napanee was a perfect 7-0 during round-robin play before suffering its first defeat to Tavistock during Saturday’s night’s 1st vs 2nd place game. Tavistock was 6-1 during the preliminary schedule, losing 10-1 to Napanee on Thursday evening.
Hagersville, which was 4-3 during the round-robin, had to win two games Saturday to move on to the final day of competition. They edged Saskatchewan’s other representative, the Saskatoon Selects, 5-4 earlier in the day Saturday before defeating Rosebud in the evening.
The 2022 Canadian U20 Men’s Fast Pitch Championship has been held from Aug. 2 to 7 in Napanee.
