2022 McDonalds High School Athletes of the Year

Through the generosity of Robert Doyle, owner of the Belleville McDonald’s Restaurants, the Hall of Fame Committee conducts the annual High School Athlete of the Year Program. This program recognizes the Senior Female and Male Athletes of the Year from eight local High Schools – Bayside, Centennial, Eastside, Nicholson Catholic, Quinte Christian, Sir James Whitney, St. Theresa, and Albert College – and selects the overall Senior Female and Male Athlete of the Year for Belleville.

It is estimated that over 25% of students at a high school will participate in one or more interschool sport activities. At the eight schools involved in this program, over 2000 student athletes participate in athletic programs supported by volunteer teacher coaches and volunteers from the community.

Mason Duvall, Centennial Secondary School

Mason Duvall, Centennial Secondary’s Athlete of the Year, is an outstanding multi-sport athlete and leader. In his four years at Centennial Secondary School, Mason played and excelled at team sports including Football, Basketball, and Rugby. He also was a standout in track and field with his incredible speed and determination.

In football, where Mason dominated as a running back, he was unstoppable and lead his team to both the Bay of Quinte and COSSA Championships, as well as a silver in the OFSAA Bowl Series.

On the basketball team, Mason demonstrated his athletic prowess and perseverance, contributing to his team’s undefeated regular season and runners-up at the Bay of Quinte Championships.

In rugby, Mason used his strength, agility, game sense, and speed to help his team capture Bay of Quinte and COSSA Gold and another trip to OFSAA where Mason was an MVP. One of Mason’s coaches, Joe Dicresce describes him as not only the most valuable athlete in every sport he competes in but also a great leader and example for his peers. Mason is an outstanding athlete who is incredibly coachable, and his character stands out on and off the field or court.

Mason was also highly successful in track and field, earning a 1st Place finish in the 200m at the Bay of Quinte Championships. Mason coaches in the minor league and the youth Bulldogs Rugby Program in the community.

Mason was recruited by Guelph University and will be attending there this fall on a Football Scholarship.
