Best-of-seven heads back to Milton on Friday with Trenton up 2-1

Carter Bickle posted his third shutout of the playoffs, leading his Milton Menace to a 4-0 win over the Trenton Golden Hawks in Game 3 of the Ontario Junior Hockey League Championship series in Trenton tonight.

Trenton leads the best-of-seven series two games to one.

Bickle, the former Ontario Hockey Leaguer, has elevated his game in the postseason, going 13-4-0 with a league-leading 1.89 save percentage.

“(Bickle is) the reason why we are here, at least the biggest reason. The numbers aside, to kill off whatever it was, five or six penalties tonight and another five-on-three…”

“It’s been him,” Menace captain Graeme MacAuley said when asked about Bickle, the Menace and the goals against on the OJHL Post Game show on social media. “He’s the reason why we are here, at least the biggest reason. The numbers aside, to kill off whatever it was, five or six penalties tonight and another five-on-three… He’s been playing great. He’s been our best penalty killer.”

Justin Dezoete, Spencer Vandenberg, Owen Kindree and Ryder Cali scored for the Menace who broke open a scoreless game with a goal in the second period and three in the third.

Madden MacDougall, who is tied for the league lead in postseason points (27) with teammate Luke Johnston, had two assists.

Attendance was 1,262.

Game 4 will be played in Milton on Friday night.

“It should be another good crowd, much like here (in Trenton),”  said MacAuley, who has 25 playoff points of his own. “We get a really good crowd at home. We pack it up. It’s really loud. I’m super excited.

“Two-to-one series now. We just need to carry that momentum into Friday and keep it rolling.”

The OJHL champs will qualify for the Centennial Cup national championship tournament May 8-18 at the Max Bell Centre in Calgary.
