OJHL – TRENTON WILL PLAY MANITOBA CHAMPS IN CENTENNIAL CUP OPENER

OJHL’s Golden Hawks, NOJHL’s Sudbury Cubs punched their tickets to next week’s national championship tournament in Calgary Wednesday night

TORONTO – Playoff action in the Canadian Junior Hockey League Wednesday night saw the eighth and ninth teams punch their respective tickets to the Centennial Cup, presented by Tim Hortons, which goes May 8-18 at the Max Bell Centre in Calgary, Alta.

In a thrilling finish to the Ontario Junior Hockey League Buckland Cup Final, the Trenton Golden Hawks tallied twice late in regulation to force overtime, then scored on a two-man advantage in OT to upend the Milton Menace 3-2 and take the best-of-seven affair in six games.

Meanwhile, the Greater Sudbury Cubs secured their second straight trip to the Centennial Cup after defeating the Hearst Lumberjacks 6-4 in the seventh and deciding contest of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League championship series to once again capture the Copeland Cup – McNamara Trophy.

Thursday evening will see the Centennial Cup field finalized when the Dauphin Kings host the Northern Manitoba Blizzard in Game 7 of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League’s Turnbull Cup Final, with the winner there moving on to Calgary. They’ll play Trenton in the first game on the Centennial Cup schedule, next Thursday, May 8, at 2 p.m.ET.
