The Trenton Golden Hawks snapped a three-game losing skid and ended the three-game win streak of the Wellington Dukes in Ontario Junior Hockey League action Sunday afternoon.

Aiden MacIntosh scored twice and Dalton Bancoft had a four-point outing as the Golden Hawks downed the Dukes 5-3 in Game 2 of the Hasty P’s Challenge Cup, an eight-game regular season showdown between the two clubs.

Wellington cut the deficit to three times during the three periods before Trenton emerged victorious.

Nathan Oickle opened the scoring on a Golden Hawks power play 2:26 into the contest before Brodie McDougall responded for the Dukes with his first of two in the game at the 6:21 mark of the first period.

Early in the second, the two sides traded power play goals, with McIntosh striking first at 2:36 followed by David Campbell’s second as a Duke at 4:47.

Trenton pulled away with two more goals during the middle frame. Jordan Fuller scored at the 9:40 mark Bancroft at 18:55.

MacDougall tallied his second of the contest 13:11 into the third to trim Trenton’s lead to 4-3 before McIntosh secured the Golden Hawks’ victory with empty net at 18:43.

Trenton also won the first Hasty P’s match-up against the Dukes 7-4 on Oct. 15. The two clubs will meet again Friday, Nov. 12 in Trenton for Game 3.

Sunday was the Dukes debut for former Quinte Red Devil Graham Dickerson, who was released recently by the OHL’s Kitchener Rangers.

The Dukes announced prior to the game that Dickerson’s rights had been acquired from the Haliburton County Huskies in exchange for Payton Schaly, Jonah Cochrane and Cameron Kosurko.

Dickerson played for the Red Devils U16 team during the 2016-17 season and was a 14th round pick by Kitchener in the OHL Priority Selection. Teammates that year included current Dukes captain Emmet Pierce and Golden Hawks co-captain Bancroft along with Daniel Panetta, Cameron Supryka, Zach Uens and Derrick Vos. Current Dukes Jacob Vreugdenhil and Cole Maguire also played a few games for that Red Devils club.

Now 20, Dickerson went on to play for his hometown Port Hope Panthers junior C club and then junior A Whitby Fury before playing 83 games during parts of two seasons with the OHL’s Rangers.

Dickerson earned an assist on McDougall’s second goal in his first game with the Dukes on Sunday.

Wellington (6-6-0-1) returns to action on the road Thursday against the St. Michael’s Buzzers (8-4-0-0) and host the North York Rangers (11-3-1-0) on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Lehigh Arena.
