Thirteen teams will compete in the Ontario Amateur Softball Association U17 Boys Elimination Tournament from Friday through Sunday in Napanee.
Host Napanee Express will open its schedule Friday on Canada Day at 7:30 p.m. against the winner of an earlier game between Fitzroy Harbour and Westport. Teams need to lose twice to be eliminated from the double-knockout tournament.
Napanee team members are: Brandon Barker, Zachary Branchaud, Gavin Brooks, Kaden Fowler, Grady Irwin, Ty Kemp, Derek Li, Jack Madden, Will Myers, Anthony Nugent, Luke Paul and Caleb South.
The championship final is scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m. with another game to be played at 3 p.m. if the loser of the previous game hasn’t lost twice.
Four teams from the elimination tournament will earn berths to the Softball Canada national championship in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan from Aug. 10 to 14. The next four will have berths at the Eastern Canadian Championship from August 18 to 21 in Stratford, Ontario.
The top eight teams will also play at the Ontario Summer Games in Mississauga from July 21 to 24 , which will also be the U17 Provincial A event. The remaining teams will play in the U17 Provincial B tournament in Stratford from July 29 – 31.
