Just as they did the night before, the Collingwood Blues built up a 3-0 lead over the Trenton Golden Hawks in Game 2 of the Ontario Junior Hockey League Nutrafarms Championship Series in Collingwood Saturday night.
Only this time they did not relinquish the lead. Instead, they extended it to win 4-0 and take a two-games-to-none lead in the best-of-seven series.
And just as they did in their 5-4 series-opening victory Friday, the Blues struck early Saturday, 17 seconds in on Jack Silverman’s fifth goal and 14th point of the 2024 playoffs.
Defenceman Cameron Eke, with his second in two games, made it 2-0 Collingwood at the 15:48 mark.
The second period was scoreless.
Spencer Young and Jack Rimmer iced it with third-period goals.
Noah Pak, who was honoured as the OJHL’s Top Goaltender (lowest GAA) and Goaltender of the Year the night before, picked up the 38th shutout of his Collingwood career and 16th of season.
“It took us a bit to settle down in the first game,” Spencer Young, the player of the game after his three-point night. “We got off to a good start, but I believe our emotions got a litle too high.
“Today, we just kept our cool and got the job done.”
Attendance was 1,052.
The series shifts to Trenton for games three and four.
The winner of the series will hoist the Buckland Cup and earn a berth in the Centennial Cup national championships in Oakville May 9-19.
The OJHL champions’ first game at the Centennial Cup will be played May 9 against the champions of the Alberta Junior Hockey League.
