Matthew Cato’s second goal of the game with just six minutes remaining lifted the Trenton Golden Hawks to a 5-4 victory over the Cobourg Cougars on Friday night.
Prior to that goal, the visiting Cougars had tied the score three times in the Ontario Junior Hockey League game at the Duncan McDonald Memorial Gardens.
Devin Mauro, Jake Campbell and Justin Mauro also scored for Trenton, which held leads of 1-0. 3-1 and 4-2. Adam Barone, Andy Reist on a power play, George Krotiris shorthanded and Charlie Da Fonseca replied for the Cougars (14-14-1-2).
William Nguyen stopped 35 of the 39 shots he faced to record the win in net for the Golden Hawks, which improved to 20-8-0-2.
Next up for the Golden Hawks is four straight road games starting with next Friday, Feb. 11 in Lindsay.
