The Trenton Golden Hawks won Game 1 of the Ontario Junior Hockey League Championship Series 3-0 over the Milton Menace in Trenton Saturday night.
Ryan Sanborn continued his hot play for Trenton, stopping 25 shots to earn the shutout.
Joey Brehmer scored in the first period, David Fournier in the second and Thomas Kuipers in the third.
Trenton captain Corbin Roach called Sanborn “the heart of our team” during the new OJHL Post Game social media feature following Game 1.
“One of the most humble guys in the room,” Roach told the OJHL’s Jim Mason. “He’s a huge part of us and we couldn’t be here without him. He’s huge for us.”
Game 2 in the best-of-seven will be played in Milton Monday at 7:30 p.m. The OJHL’s annual awards will be presented during a pregame ceremony.
The OJHL champs will qualify for the Centennial Cup national championship tournament May 8-18 at the Max Bell Centre in Calgary.
