The Ontario Junior Hockey League is mourning the loss of alumnus Mike Robinson who passed away on Wednesday in Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin.

A new father, Robinson, 32, hit his first-ever hole-in-one Sheboygan Falls on Tuesday. The community of about 8,000 is located near the west side of Lake Michigan.

Robinson, who worked in the golf industry, was on a golf trip in Wisconsin. Police said he died after succumbing to injuries from a gunshot wound despite life-saving efforts from first responders.

He became a father to a baby girl in August.

The popular Stouffville native helped his hometown Spirit win the OJHL championship in 2012 before playing a season and a half with the Niagara IceDogs of the Ontario Hockey League.

The popular Stouffville native helped his hometown Spirit win the OJHL championship in 2012 before playing a season and a half with the Niagara IceDogs of the Ontario Hockey League. He returned to the OJHL to complete his junior career with the Wellington Dukes in 2014.

The Robinson family billetted Spirit players while Mike was playing minor hockey in the Stouffville area during the early 2000s. His parents were deeply involved in youth hockey, from coaching to working in the boardroom of the local association.

Mike was selected by the Barrie Colts in the 15th round of the 2009 OHL Priority Selection.

Robinson played five seasons at what’s now Ontario Tech from 2014-19 before playing professionally with Orlando of the ECHL and in Germany and Belgium.

GoFundMe has been set up in support of Mike’s young family. More than $50,000 had been raised by late Thursday afternoon.

The OJHL extends sympathies to the Robinson family and Mike’s many friends.
