West final resumes in Milton Friday night
Kieran Litterick’s goal at 7:56 of double overtime lifted the Haliburton County Huskies to a 4-3 win over the Trenton Golden Hawks in Ontario Junior Hockey League playoff action in Trenton Thursday.
Trenton leads the best-of-seven East Conference final two games to one. Game 4 will be played Saturday at 4 p.m. in Haliburton County.
Litterick’s goal, his first of the postseason, came off a rebound from a point shot following a faceoff in the Trenton end.
The Huskies jumped out to a 2-0 lead in front of 1,027 fans at Duncan Memorial Gardens, only to have the host Golden Hawks score three straight of their own.
Former OHLer (Peterborough, Brampton) Chase Lefebvre sent the game to overtime with his second of the game and his sixth of the playoffs for the Huskies with 11 seconds remaining in regulation and goaltender Tyler Hodges on the bench. Tai York netted the first goal for Haliburton County.
Isaiah Shantz, Taeo Artichuk and Corbin Roach scored for Trenton. Cooper Matthews had two assists.
Hodges earned the win in net. His Huskies were outshot 53-43. Hodges leads the OJHL playoffs with a 0.951 save percentage. Trenton’s Ryan Sanborn has the best goals-against average (1.90).
The West Conference final resumes Friday night with the host Milton Menace leading the Leamington Flyers two games to one. Road teams have won all three games in the series. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Milton Memorial Arena.
The conference champs will meet in the OJHL Championship Series April 18 to May 3 for the Frank L. Buckland Cup.
The Buckland Cup champions advance to the Centennial Cup, May 8-18, 2025 in Calgary, Alberta.
