Below is the weekly report for games Feb. 27-March 5 submitted by the Quinte Red Devils AAA minor hockey association
The Madison Excavating U11 Quinte Red Devils have won their fourth straight playoff game.
In the final home game of the season, the U11s hosted the Markham Waxers on Sunday for a real jaw-clencher. While there were no goals scored by either team in the first period, the game really picked up in the second. Roughly five and a half minutes in, Kade Osterhout would open up the scoring with a powerplay goal, when he was sprung in all alone off a Blake McManus breakaway pass. The lead for QRD was short-lived, however, when the Waxers tipped in a point a mere twenty-four seconds later. Just over a minute after that, QRD took the lead back, when Kade Whelan found the back of the net. Approximately three minutes after his first goal of the game, Whelan sniped another one, after blowing by a Waxer defenceman on the right wing. With only two and a half minutes before the end of the second period, the Waxers tucked home a loose puck after a scramble in front of the net. QRD took their 3-2 lead into the third period, however, just forty-one seconds in, Markham tied the game at three, off a breakaway goal. The tie remained for six and a half suspenseful minutes. Then, with eight minutes left on the clock, Coulter Watson scored the game-winning goal for QRD, going upstairs over the goaltender’s glove. The game ended in a well-deserved 4-3 victory for the Devils. In net, Hayden Tripp worked hard and made some key saves for the win.
Coach’s Corner with Head Coach Andrew Brown: “A great effort from the kids. We battled hard and we continue to find ways to win tight games. We are looking forward to another challenge Friday, in our journey through playoffs.”

The McInroy Maines U18 Team was on the road this week with one playoff game.
The Devils faced the Richmond Hill Coyotes on the road this past Sunday. With the Devils already having one playoff win in hand against the Coyotes the two teams were both ready to battle. After a scoreless first, the Coyotes struck first early in the second but it was Thomas Kuipers on the set up from Keenan Wiles and Justin Murdoch who would tie the game. After giving up another goal in the second, the Devils went into the third looking to tie it up but despite their efforts it wasn’t to be. An empty netter would leave the U18 Devils with a 1-3 loss. Dean Spry was in net for the game.
ON DECK: The McInroy Maines U18s will take this week off and be back in action March 18th to host Oshawa and will be in Aurora on the 19th to face YSE.
