Madison Excavating U13 AAA Quinte Red Devils Battle to Back-to-Back Ties in High-Paced Matchups

Tuesday, February 11th, vs. North Shore Whitecaps

The Madison Excavating QRD U13s took to home ice on Tuesday night in Madoc for a high-energy battle against the North Shore Whitecaps. QRD struck first, with Dylan Chalk ripping one past the netminder early in the first, set up by Blake McManus and Kade Osterhout. Less than two minutes into the second, Quinte capitalized on the power play, as Osterhout found the back of the net, assisted by Everett Brown and Robbie Robinson. The Whitecaps answered quickly with back-to-back power play goals to even the score. Chalk responded with his second of the night, off setups from Osterhout and Hewett Tejnor, but North Shore buried another minutes later, tying it at three heading into the third. North Shore then took their first lead of the night before Cooper Plumley, assisted by Tejnor and Robinson, brought Quinte back even. Jack Seeney followed up with a power play marker to restore QRD’s lead, but the Whitecaps struck again just two minutes later. Goaltender, Ben Larmer, held strong through intense back-and-forth action, sealing the 5-5 final for Quinte.

Friday, February 14th, @ Greater Kingston Jr. Gaels

The Devils then hit the road Friday night for an icy battle against the Greater Kingston Jr. Gaels. The home team struck first, capitalizing on a power play, for the lone goal of the opening frame. Kingston extended their lead early in the second, but Everett Brown answered back with a short-handed tally to get QRD on the board. With just fifty-three seconds left in the period, Cooper Plumley buried the equalizer off a feed from Hewett Tejnor. Early in the third, Dylan Chalk gave Quinte the lead, but with just sixteen seconds left, Kingston netted a 6-on-3 power play goal to tie the game. In net, Hayden Tripp, stood tall, backstopping QRD to a hard-fought 3-3 tie.

Next Up: Saturday, February 22nd at 12:30 pm vs. Whitby Wildcats (Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre – Mackay Insurance Pad) followed by the team’s final regular season game on Sunday, February 23rd at 5:45 pm @ Peterborough Petes (Healthy Planet Arena – Sign-A-Field Pad). Note: Following Saturday’s game, team sponsors are invited to join the team for a post-game reception with light refreshments. The Quinte U11’s won their only game of the weekend to pick up another two points in league play.

On Saturday the Breakaway Fuels U11 Red Devils took on the always tough Central Ontario Wolves.  This one was exactly what everyone expected a fast, tight checking affair.  The Wolves jumped out to a 1-0 lead midway through the first but Kai Mackie from Greyson Rennie would even the score just 12 seconds later.  Mackie would score an unassisted short handed goal in the second and with some great goaltending by Deacon Vos throughout the game the Devils would hold on for the 2-1 victory.

Sunday’s game vs the York Simcoe Express was cancelled due to weather and has been rescheduled for Thursday night.

The Free Flow Petroleum U10 AAA Quinte Red Devils Face Off Against Whitby

The Free Flow Petroleum U10 Red Devils met up with the Whitby Wildcats in their final regular season game on Monday.

The Red Devils travelled to Whitby on Monday night to face-off against the undefeated Whitby Wildcats in their highly anticipated last regular season match-up. With Emerson Courtney between the pipes, the fast paced game saw a score of 0-0 at the end of the first period. Whitby scored twice early in the second, but the U10’s battled hard with Bentley May finding the back of the net for Quinte before the end of the frame. Bodhi Yearwood chipped in with an assist on the goal. In an exciting moment, another puck found the back of the net but was just beat by the buzzer and was called back, leaving the score 2-1 for Whitby heading into the third period. A couple of penalties in the third found Quinte caught 5 on 3, which ended in another goal for Whitby. The Red Devils were relentless, with Courtney making some great saves in net, but saw the game end in a 4-1 loss.

On Deck: The Free Flow Petroleum U10s are currently holding second place in their division, but await the remaining rescheduled league games to be played this week to determine play-off groupings and schedule. Unfortunately the game ended in a 9-1 loss. Griffen Bird was the sole goal-scorer. It was a long, late drive home. But . . . The team is looking to shake off the loss, and gearing up for their play-off match-ups this week!

Sat Feb 22 vs Whitby Wildcats, Sports & Wellness Centre 5:45pm

The Environmental 360 Solutions U16 AAA Quinte Red Devils open playoffs with a big win!

After a pair of weekend ‘snowouts’ the Environmental 360 Solutions U16 Red Devils were finally able to start the postseason Monday afternoon in Newmarket, and what a start it was.  Quinte outshot the ‘B’ pool’s top-ranked York-Simcoe Express 30-27 and streaked to a commanding 5-0 lead before the home team snuck on the board late in the game, as the third-ranked Devils humbled the Express 5-2 to open the OMHA East round-robin playoffs.

Blake Munnings initiated the scoring just over four minutes into the first period, putting Quinte in the driver’s seat right off the get-go, and they never looked back.  Four minutes later Mac Chisholm netted his first of two, scoring on the powerplay to up the count to 2-0, then Wyatt Whalen’s eventual winning tally made it 3-0 and put things out of York-Simcoe’s reach at 5:29 of the second period.  Whalen also scored twice to round out a three-point night with his second goal coming, unassisted, midway through the third frame to give Quinte the five-goal cushion after Chisholm’s second marker had upped the count to 4-0 four minutes earlier.  Devils’ goalie, Ayden Mullen, was unbeatable at the back end until he was eventually solved by the Express with 2:14 to go in the game.  York-Simcoe scored again 1:02 after that, but it proved to be much-too-little, much-too-late as Quinte cruised to the easy win.

Picking up an assist apiece for the winning side were Whalen, Munnings, Nick Colson, Nate Rashotte, Henry Fisher, Chase Cybulskie and Isaac Tracze while the Devils were slapped with 26 minutes in penalties to York-Simcoe’s 16.

Monday’s 5-2 triumph was the first playoff game for both teams as the East Conference’s six-team ‘B’ pool embarks on a three-week round-robin that sees each club play the other five squads twice, home-and-home.  The top two finishing teams, along with the best two from the ‘A’ pool, advance to the eight-team OMHA U16 Championships in Clarington next month.  The ‘B’ pool consists of Quinte, York-Simcoe, Peterborough, North Shore, Whitby and North Central while Ajax-Pickering, Barrie, Markham, Central Ontario and Kingston make up the ‘A’ pool.

On Deck… The Red Devils continue down the road to the OMHA Championships Wednesday night (Feb. 19) when they travel to Peterborough’s Healthy Planet Arena to take on the ‘B’ pool’s third-ranked Petes at 7:45.  The following Saturday afternoon at 5:30 Quinte plays host to the North Central Predators before York-Simcoe comes to Belleville the next day at 1:30 for their second and final meeting of the round-robin with the Devils.  Both games go at the CAA Arena.

The Gillespie’s Tree Service U15 AAA Quinte Red Devils hosted a pair of home games this week looking to continue their climb up the standings. Thursday evening saw the Junior Gaels come to town for a game in between snow storms. Ewan Dahle opened the scoring for the home side banging home a rebound off a combined Trent Clow and Brechen Aird effort. The Gaels would knot the game at 1 in the second and then jump out to a 2-1 lead early in the 3rd. Clow got the game back to even footing converting a turnover he forced and then Andrew Laurin put QRD ahead 3-2 finishing off a nice passing play with Jack Beebe and Autin Pettey.  Unfortunately Kingston would tie it up late and then convert the overtime winner to hand the Devils a home loss, but a much needed point in the standings. Family Day Monday saw the Markham Waxers came to town after Saturday’s snowfall forced a reschedule. QRD jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on an Andrew Laurin tip of a Spencer Harold shot Trent Clow picked up a helper as well. Markham would reel off the next 4 goals as QRD dug themselves a pretty significant hole. From the book of any shot is a good shot, Andrew Dewar got a great bounce from just across centre to pull QRD back to within 2. Jack Sutton and John Korver picked up assists on the play as well. On the same shift Sutton picked off a Markham clearing attempt and buried it to pull the Devils to within one shot. That tying shot came off the stick of Ewan Dahle after a great cross ice feed from Laurin and outlet pass from Brechen Aird. This saw the Devils off to their second straight OT contest. Unfortunately the result was the same as the U15 squad picked up a single point instead of 2 points for the second straight game.

The Devils close out the regular season this week hosting the North Shore Whitecaps on Wednesday night and then travelling to Kingston on Saturday. Wednesday’s game takes place at the Wellness Centre on the Family Dental Centre pad at 8:15. Saturday sees a 6:30 puck drop on the Kinsmen pad at the Cataraqui Community Centre and will be available on LiveBarn for those who subscribe.

The Bonn Law U14 AAA Quinte Red Devils are looking forward to playoffs starting this week!

The team was snowed-out of their final regular season game this weekend, which is rescheduled this week.

The second period saw both teams trade chances, but neither could find the back of the net. The Quinte U11 Red Devils clinched first place in the East with a couple big road wins this weekend

On Saturday the Breakaway Boys headed East to take on the Jr Gaels in Kingston.  This was a clash of 1 vs 2 in the East.  The Devils would score first when Ethan Dowling snapped one past the Gaels goalie with three and a half minutes left in the first period.  Jackson Simpson picked up the assist.  The Gaels would even the score ten minutes into the second but Kai Macke would score unassisted with less than two minutes remaining in the middle frame to regain the one goal lead.  The Gaels again would even the score less than a minute into the third with a powerplay goal.  Dowling would score four straight after that to give the Devils a 6-2 win.  Assists went to Mackie (2) and Silas Templar.  Deacon Vos made some great saves to secure the win.  Dowling took home the Devils fork for Player of the Game.

On Sunday the young Devils headed to Markham for a game against the Waxers.  Again this was a tight checking affair but Tripp Plumley would score unassisted and Dowling would score from Simpson to give the Devils a 2-1 lead heading into the second. The middle frame was scoreless and Jordy Andrews made some great saves to keep the narrow lead.  In the third Kai Mackie from Simpson and Dowling would extend the lead before Kolton Solmes would finish off a great passing play from Ryder Bradford and Greyson Rennie on the power play.  The game would end 4-1.  Greyson Rennie would earn player of the game honours.

On Deck:  The Breakaway Fuels Boys have two home games next weekend.  The Central Ontario Wolves will be at the Keeler on Saturday at 1pm and York Simcoe will be in Madoc on Sunday at 2pm.

The Gillespie’s Tree Service U15 AAA Quinte Red Devils were on the road for a pair of games this weekend with the U16 Showcase in town. Saturday saw a trip up the 401 to Whitby to take on the Wildcats. After falling into an early 1-0 hole, John Korver forced a turnover behind the Whitby net and Austin Preston banged home his rebound to tie the game at 1. The score would stay this way until Lauchlan Whelan would force a turnover short handed and skate the length of the ice and bury it to put the Devils up 2-1. Shortly after that, on the same penalty kill, Andrew Laurin would hit Whelan with a nice stretch pass and he would bury his second straight short handed goal for a 3-1 lead. Coen Lowry would bury a third goal in the second period batting in an Austin Pettey rebound for a 4-1 lead heading into the break. Korver would pick up an assist as well. Sadly, it was not to be for the Devils as they couldn’t withstand a strong Whitby push and ended up on the wrong side of a 5-4 score. The team reset knowing they need to run the table to have a chance at a top 2 finish and headed back up the 401 to Clarington to take on North Shore on Sunday. North Shore would take a 1-0 lead into the first intermission before Quinte would shake off their slow start. Lawson Minifie would gain the offensive zone and drop a pass to Ewan Dahle who buried it from the slot to knot the game at 1. Quinte would keep the pressure up through the second frame before Lauchlan Whelan would pick the pocket of a Whitecap defender and feed Andrew Laurin who put QRD up 2-1 heading into the break. Andrew Dewar opened the scoring in the third with a solo effort from deep in his own end to put the Devils up 3-1. Coen Lowry would knock in the rebound off a Dewar shot to go up 4-1 with John Korver also picking up an assist on the play. the Whitecaps would get one back before Whelan would cap the weekend with his 3rd short handed marker off a great feed from Laurin for a 5-2 final and a big two points for QRD vaulting them back up to second in the standings.

This week sees a pair of home games at the Wellness Centre with the Greater Kingston Jr Gaels coming to town on Thursday night for an 8:30 contest on the Mackay pad. Saturday sees Markham come to town for the third and final game in the season series. Puck drop is 5:30 on the CAA pad for that one.
