The Madison Excavating Quinte Red Devils Go Two for Two in Playdown Play this Weekend

The Madison Excavating U11 Quinte Red Devils started the weekend off strong with a win against the Markham Waxers, in game two of the OMHA playdowns. The game got off to a fantastic start, when six and a half minutes into the first period, Kade Whelan opened up the scoring, burying the puck in Markham’s net. Three minutes later, Whelan scored his second goal of the period, extending QRD’s lead to 2-0. As the second period began, QRD got into some penalty trouble, leaving them short-handed for a large portion of the period. QRD weathered the storm until the 2:05 mark of the second, when the Waxers scored their lone goal of the game. Tensions were high going into the third, but the boys battled hard, and halfway through the period, Kade Osterhout lit the lamp, restoring the two-goal lead. With only thirty seconds to go, Osterhout scored his second goal of the game, and helped steer the team to a 4-1 victory. Hayden Tripp was busy between the pipes, making some great saves to keep the team on top.

On Sunday, the Madison Excavating U11 Quinte Red Devils hosted the Whitby Wildcats for a nailbiter, which would ultimately end in the third straight playoff win for the Devils. The Wildcats took a quick and early lead, scoring two goals within the first four minutes of the game. Going into the second period, QRD was ready to turn things around. Continuing their weekend goal streaks, both Kade Whelan and Kade Osterhout found the back of the net, both while short-handed, bringing the game to a 2-2 tie. Whitby managed to gain the lead back, only to watch Everett Brown beat their goaltender over his glove thirty seconds later. Tensions were high going into the third period, and Whitby once again managed to take the lead, with a score of 4-3. QRD refocused and stuck to their game plan, which resulted in Blake Milne scoring the equalizer, and Dylan Chalk ripping home the game-winner, ending in a 5-4 victory. Ben Larmer made some solid saves in net, keeping the score close throughout.
