The Wellington Dukes are proud to announce the Dukes Captain Dimitri Tzaferis has committed to the Middlebury College Panthers for the 2024-25 season.
Middlebury College is a Divison III NCAA program located in Middlebury, Vermont.
Tzaferis joined the Dukes at the beginning of the season from the Drayton Valley Thunder of the AJHL and immediately stepped into a leadership role. The 20 year old defenseman from Montreal was named Captain part way through the season and helped lead an inexperienced team to a 3rd place conference finish.
In 55 games, Tzaferis put up 40 points (13G,27A), finishing in the Top 12 among defensemen in OJHL scoring. Tzaferis spoke very highly of the Dukes organization and the community when reached for comment on his commitment to Middlebury. “The Dukes organization and the town of Wellington will always have a special place in my heart. I’m forever grateful for my teammates, coaching staff and the best fans in OJHL. That being said, I’m proud to announce my commitment to Middlebury College. It’s an honour to be able to pursue my academics and hockey at such a prestigious institution. I’d like to thank my family, friends, coaches, billets and everyone else that’s supported me along the way!”
Dukes Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations Kent Lewis was excited for Tzaferis when hearing of his commitment and spoke very highly of the veteran defenseman. “Middlebury has landed an exceptional player and person. Dimitri was a tremendous asset to our club and a pleasure to coach. He will have a great run both on the ice and in the classroom and beyond.”
Tzaferis becomes the 7th member of the 2023-24 Dukes team to secure a college commitment for the 2024-25 season. The Wellington Dukes are proud to continue to be a leader in advancing players to the next level.
