Wellington Dukes & Trenton Golden Hawks FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE The Hasty P Challenge Cup is Back for the 2021-22 Season.

October 14th 2021

The Wellington Dukes and Trenton Golden Hawks have confirmed that this Friday’s game at the Duke Dome will be the first leg in the Hasty P’s Cup for the 2021-22 Season.  The Hasty P’s Cup was

introduced for an eight game series last season during the stricken pandemic.

The tremendous success of last year’s series really illustrated to both organizations how much interest the “Battle of Quinte” garners during the regular season. Derek Smith, Director of Hockey Operations and Head coach of the Wellington Dukes said, “Similar to events in European sports, we wanted to create a local “derby” type competition that occurs inside of the regular season series.“ The two teams will play each other eight times during this regular season. Each game will carry extra weight as this competition is built around not only league standings but local pride to win the Hasty P’s Cup.

“This rivalry runs deep between these two organizations as both hockey clubs are perennial contenders in the OJHL and their close geographical proximity allows for the fans to really get involved as both fan bases travel well. ”Said Pete Goulet , Head Coach of the Trenton Golden Hawks.

Last year Trent Valley Distribution was Title Sponsor for this Challenge Cup Series.

Chris Auger, owner of Trent Valley said, “We at Trent Valley Distribution are very proud to have been the founding sponsor of this fantastic series between these two storied franchises. Having experienced these types of derby tourneys while playing in Europe, I know how exciting this will be for local hockey fans. Having played for the Wellington Dukes I especially appreciate the rivalry with Trenton and look forward to bringing this to the great fans in the Quinte area.”

Auger went on to say, “This event is made even more special with the inclusion of the historic Hasty P’s Military Regiment. Saluting this Regiment with an athletic competition is so fitting for an organization that not only represented the Quinte area with distinction and pride but made unbelievable sacrifices in order for us to enjoy these luxuries of life such as junior hockey.”

The first game of the 2021/22 Hasty P’s Challenge Cup will be played this Friday October 15 at the

Wellington Lehigh Arena. Puck drop is at 730 PM.

Local health authorities have expanded capacity allowances to accommodate all available seats for fully vaccinated and masked fans. Gates will open one hour before game time to allow for the added time to usher fans through in a timely fashion.
