Pirates blank Huskies in return to action

Nate Boomhower and Jack Dow each scored twice as the Picton Pirates returned to Provincial Junior Hockey League action Thursday night with a 6-0 victory over the visiting Frankford Huskies at the Prince Edward Community Centre.

Boomhower, who had a taste of ECHL action in December with the Wheeling Nailers, assisted on both of Dow’s goals for a four-point night.

Owen Dever and Ian Harrison also scored for the Pirates, which improved to 11-9-0-1.

Goaltender Owen Willis made 19 saves as he earned his first win in net for the Pirates. The 19-year-old from Toronto was signed at the trade deadline. A 2018 OHL draft pick by the London Knights, Willis spent time with the Toronto Titans midget AAA program and played seven games last season for the Espanola Express of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League.

Hayden Candler made 30 saves in a losing cause for the Huskies (1-20-2-0).

Next up for the Pirates are road games against the Campbellford Rebels on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday afternoon against the Amherstview Jets at 3:30.

Frankford will host the Napanee Raiders on Saturday evening at 7:50.

Friday night, the Raiders will host the Rebels in Napanee. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
