Schedules set for Dukes, Golden Hawks in second round of OJHL playoffs

The second round of the Ontario Junior Hockey League playoffs will begin this week for the Wellington Dukes and Trenton Golden Hawks.

Both Quinte teams won their first-round match-ups in five games with Wellington emerging victorious over the St. Michael’s Buzzers and Trenton knocking out the Cobourg Cougars.

Next up for the Dukes is the Haliburton County Huskies, which eliminated the Toronto Patriots in five games. The Dukes finished the regular season second in the OJHL’s South/East Conference with a 37-12-2-3 record while the Huskies (36-14-1-3) were just three points behind in third.

Game 1 of the best-of-seven series is scheduled for this Friday, 7:30 p.m., at Lehigh Arena in Wellington.

Meanwhile, the Golden Hawks will be facing the Toronto Jr. Canadiens, which led the OJHL with 94 points during the regular season and are coming off a four-game sweep over the North York Rangers.

Trenton compiled a 36-15-0-3 record during the season, but still finished 19 points back of the league-leading Jr. Canadiens (45-5-2-2).

Game 1 of that conference semifinal begins Wednesday night in Toronto at 7:30. The Golden Hawks will host Game 2 on Friday night with puck drop scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the Duncan McDonald Memorial Gardens in Trenton.
