The Wellington Dukes have long been a leader in helping advance players to the next level of hockey, and today the Dukes announced that GM Todd Diminie is stepping down from his position to join the OHL’s Brampton Steelheads scouting department.
Todd joined the Dukes last offseason as General Manager and helped stabilize a team that finished 3rd in the East Conference standings. He thanked the Dukes ownership group and had high praise for the organization when reached for comment. “A huge thank you to the Dukes ownership for giving me the opportunity to be a part of this great organization. In the past, as a member of other teams in the OJHL, I remember walking into the Duke Dome and feeling a special vibe and energy. I always heard how special it was to play in Wellington. Now, after being a member of this organization, I’ve realized what it is. It’s the loyal Dukes fans and the incredible Dukes volunteers that make Wellington truly an amazing team to be member of. I’m looking forward to getting started this season as a member of the OHL Brampton Steelheads, but will for sure be dropping into the Duke Dome to catch some games.”
The Dukes owner, Ken Clement released a statement through Dukes COO Tealah Clement congratulating Todd and thanking him for his service to the Dukes. “On behalf of my father Ken Clement and myself, we want to take this time to thank Todd Diminie for his incredible work as General Manager during his tenure with the Wellington Dukes. We will miss him very much but are also excited and proud to see him move up to the OHL Brampton Steelheads. They have gained a great asset to their team. Thank you Todd from the management team of the Wellington Dukes, we wish you much success in the future.”
Dukes Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations, Kent Lewis who worked closely alongside Diminie throughout his tenure with Wellington was very complimentary of the work Todd did with the Dukes. “I am beyond happy to see Todd move on to a new exciting adventure in the hockey world. Todd was exceptional in our turn around last year. His help navigating through the endless paper work was immense. We look forward to seeing him around the Duke Dome.”
The Wellington Dukes head into their 36th season with lots of anticipation. The Dukes will open their season on the road when they face off with the Pickering Panthers on Sunday, September 8th. They will play their first home game on Friday, September 13th versus the Toronto Jr. Canadiens.
