Coach Caleb Hugh and the Lancers are excited to welcome Monalique Knights to the women’s basketball team for the 2021-2022 season.
From Brampton, Ontario, Knights joins the Lancers after a successful playing career with St. Marguerite D’youville Highschool. Named MVP of the Region of Peel Secondary School Athletic Association (ROPSSAA) championship squad in 2019-2020, the 5’6 combo guard brings talent, athleticism, and experience to her new team.
Knights started her career with the Hardwood Queens before spending time with the Mississauga Monarchs, United Elite and in the Filipino League.
“Monalique is a fun player to watch on the basketball court” says Coach Hugh. “She has strong handles and a variety of crafty finishes around the hoop. She plays with a confidence on the floor that I admire. ”
Knights and her fellow rookies will help fill the roles left by graduating athletes Andrea Salazar, Frances Ginete and Hannah Schipper from the tight-knit, 2019-2020 squad.
“One of the reasons I chose Loyalist was after talking to the team, they gave me a sense that they are like a family, which won me over” says Knights.
“Based on play style and attitude Monalique will fit right in with the team that we are putting together at Loyalist” continues Coach Hugh. “I’m very excited to add another Lancer to the basketball family.”
