U10s Start 2024 with Three Straight Wins

After a well deserved and much needed two week break the Breakaway Fuels U10 Devils were back in action this week to kick off the second half of their season. They started the week with a Tuesday night game on the road against the Peterborough Petes.  The Petes came out aggressive and took it to the young devils for the first few shifts but they were able to weather the storm and Kolton Solmes found Kai Mackie for a goal with 31 seconds left in the first to open the scoring.  The Petes would even the score early in the second before Evan VanEgmond and Mason Cooke would put the Devils up 3-1.  Assists went to Silas Templar and VanEgmond.  Wade Robinson would round out the scoring in the third with an unassisted tally and the game would end 4-1.  Deacon Vos would get the win in net.

Saturday saw the young Devils take on a feisty Ajax Pickering Raiders team. This one was a tight checking affair and remained scoreless until partway through the second when Solmes found the back of the net from Ethan Dowling and Jax Scott.  Jackson Simpson would put them up by two with an unassisted goal five minutes later.  The score remained 2-0 until late in the third when Ajax would get a late power play goal.  Despite some late pressure Jordan Andrews stood tall in the net to preserve the 2-1 win.

Sunday had the Breakaway Boys hitting the road to face the Markham Waxers.  The road legs were evident in the first period but Vos would make some key saves to keep the game scoreless through one.  With just over five minutes left in the second Mackie would bang home a rebound off a Dowling shot to give the boys a 1-0 lead.  Greyson Rennie would score from Avery Thickson ninety seconds later to stretch the lead.  A third period insurance goal by Solmes from Dowling and Rennie would complete the scoring and give the young Devils a 3-0 victory.
