Bay of Quinte High School Athletics Enjoys Banner Year

June 11, 2026

The 2025–26 school year will be remembered as one of the most successful and competitive seasons in recent memory for high school athletics across the Bay of Quinte region.

Leading the way was St. Theresa Catholic Secondary School, whose Titans hockey team captured the school’s first-ever provincial championship. Their dramatic overtime victory at the OFSAA A/AA Boys Hockey Championships not only brought provincial gold to Belleville but also highlighted the growing strength of Bay of Quinte athletics on the provincial stage.

On the football field, Centennial Secondary School continued to establish itself as the region’s powerhouse program. The Chargers enter the upcoming season as defending champions in both the junior and senior divisions, reinforcing their reputation as one of Eastern Ontario’s premier football programs.

Basketball also provided memorable moments throughout the year. Eastside Secondary School claimed the Bay of Quinte Junior Boys Basketball Championship in thrilling fashion, edging Nicholson Catholic College by a single point in a hard-fought final. The championship showcased the depth of basketball talent developing throughout the region.

In volleyball, Central Hastings School demonstrated that smaller schools can compete with the best, capturing the COSSA “A” Junior Girls Volleyball Championship. The victory was another example of the school’s tradition of athletic excellence and determination.

Spring sports brought further success as athletes from across the region competed at Bay of Quinte, COSSA, East Regional, and OFSAA championships. Schools including Bayside Secondary School, Prince Edward Collegiate Institute, North Hastings High School, and others sent athletes to regional and provincial competitions in track and field, cross-country, wrestling, rugby, soccer, and baseball.

The year also highlighted the importance of individual achievement and leadership. Student-athletes across the Bay of Quinte earned recognition for excellence both on and off the field, while local coaches continued to receive provincial honours for their commitment to school sport.

Perhaps the most encouraging theme of the season was the balance of success across the region. From provincial hockey championships and football dominance to volleyball titles and basketball championships, schools of every size contributed to a year that showcased the strength, diversity, and competitive spirit of Bay of Quinte athletics.

As preparations begin for the 2026–27 season, expectations are high. With returning champions, emerging young talent, and strong programs throughout Belleville, Prince Edward County, Hastings County, and surrounding communities, the Bay of Quinte remains one of Ontario’s most vibrant and successful high school sports regions.
